Escaping Comfort Zones

News, Ramblings

2018 has been a big year of change, new beginnings and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I did something that I’ve been thinking about doing for a couple of years now, but never had the courage or belief in myself to do. So as you know I took a risk and decided to quit my 9-5 job in March, so that I could push my interior design business and blog to the next level. I’d been spinning a lot of plates and I realised that if I was ever going to make it work, I had to make a big decision as Interior Design isn’t something you can do long-term in the evenings and weekends on the side of a full-time job!

Leaving the comfort of a set salary was the scariest thing I’ve ever had to do but I was determined to make it work. There is always a little voice of doubt in your head, that makes change really difficult but I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support and encouragement from my friends, boyfriend, family and The Women’s Organisation to give me the confidence boost I needed.

Rollercoaster journey

One of the things I could never have prepared myself for was the rollercoaster of emotions that you feel when starting your own business. The adrenaline and excitement quickly changes to doubt and fear, to the elation of getting a client, to disappointment when something doesn’t go as planned, to exhaustion from working so many hours, to the feeling of loneliness because you haven’t seen or spoken to anyone with being so focused on work… and then it all starts all over again! Despite this rollercoaster I wouldn’t change any of it as I’m lucky to be doing something that I absolutely love.

Happy 6th birthday!

My blog has been my therapy throughout it all, so when I found out that I’ve been nominated for an Amara Blog Award this year again I was so so happy!!! This little corner of online space is my own creative outlet, fully controlled by me and I love writing about all of my passions of art, interior design and travel.

Today I realised that 6 years ago on the 17th August 2012, I wrote my very first post.  It’s crazy to think that I’ve been sharing my thoughts online for so long but I really hope I’ve managed to inspire or help even one person with my posts.

Last year I somehow managed to get shortlisted for ‘Best Interior Designer Blog’ and I want to thank each and every one of you for voting last year. In order to be shortlisted this year, I need your vote again! I’m up against some VERY talented designers and bloggers who have thousands of followers so I’m going to need a miracle to get through again.

Amara Interior Blog Awards are giving away a Leica camera to one lucky voter. Vote for me to be entered into the giveaway!
