Our favourite new coffee table books for Christmas 2020 and New Year 2021.
It can’t be just us that gets very excited when a new coffee table book is added to our collection. We like to think that coffee table books are like the grown-up version of receiving an annual or a colouring book at Christmas.
Whilst containing beautiful images and text, coffee table books are also one of our favourite decoration pieces to use when styling a home. They inject so much sophistication and elegance into a space through minimal effort.
Here are our top 10 picks of new interiors coffee table books which we’re either hoping (*hint hint*) to receive under the Christmas tree this year, or we’ll be preordering.
Here’s our picks
1. The Interior Design Handbook, Frida Ramstedt
If you’re keen to learn more about the principles behind the design of a space, this one’s for you. Ramstedt explains just why certain interior design rules work, and also includes plenty of tips and tricks to help replicate popular design ideas to work in your own space.
2. Living In, Andrew Gestalten
A stunning collection of 30 homes, compiled by leading design platform Openhouse and publishing house gestalten. This book encompasses a wide range of styles, but the one thing that they all have in common is the ability for the designs to take your breath away.
3. Nomad At Home, Hilary Robertson
This travel-led guide teaches you how to build an interior that is filled to the brim with homeware finds from around the world. You can wander through the 12 homes which Hilary explores and also take notes from her shopping recommendations from her travels.
4. Provence Style, Shauna Varvel & Alexandra Black
If you’re craving the holiday which never was this year, put this book at the top of your wish list. This coffee table book is the perfect companion to a cold winter’s day: I can just imagine curling up on the sofa with a cuppa whilst getting lost in the pictures of the beautiful Provence countryside.
5. Curate: Inspiration for an Individual Home, Lynda Gardener & Ali Heath
This creative pair have designed a book which will help you to curate your own home, particularly using a monochromatic palette and natural elements. They use a variety of different homes to demonstrate how their values can be utilised in almost any space.
6. Everything : A Maximalist Style Guide, Abigail Ahern
We love maximalism, and in certain homes this style can work wonderfully. So, if you’re the kind of person to collect homeware as memories, who’s not afraid of colour, or combining contrasting textiles, this is the book for you – just look at this beautiful spread!
7. Life Unstyled, Emily Henson
The first of our coffee table books by Emily Henson, the freelance interiors stylist and consultant. In this book the main inspiration comes from beautifully styled homes, but with obvious signs of being lived-in. So often these lifestyle books appear unrealistic; this book aims to reset this narrative.
8. Modern Rustic, Emily Henson
For our second choice by Emily Henson, we’ve chosen the Modern Rustic collection. Her main message is to utilise traditional, original features and natural materials in order to bring out the rusticity of a home. Do you have exposed brick walls? Show them off. Exposed beams? We’re jealous.
9. Table Stories, Carolina Amell
Learn the art of table setting. So much pleasure comes from sitting together around a table, but if, like us, you want to elevate your table setting game to new heights, this one’s for you. If you’re looking to go all out with your place settings at Christmas this year, you need this book.
10. Scandi Rustic, Rebecca Lawson & Reena Simon
Our final choice is based on everyone’s favourite interiors style: Scandi. Coming from two award-winning bloggers and Instagrammers, Scandi Rustic teaches how to pick out particular elements of Scandinavian design to modernise and elevate your space, also incorporating natural materials and neutral colour palettes.
Where can I buy your book recommendations?
Wherever possible we have tried to use links to hive.com. Hive are connected with hundreds of independent bookshops across the UK. When you order through Hive you can choose a local, independent bookshop to donate a portion of your order value to which is perfect if you can’t make it to the favourite bookshop at the moment. You can also choose to collect your order from your nearest independent shop.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on our choices – are there any which you think are missing from the list?!
