Our clients are successful business owners, with two teenage children and a dog. They hired Natalie Holden Interiors to design the interior of their house extension, sitting room and dining room. Both children were living away at boarding school, soon to venture off to University, so our client’s were in a fresh chapter of their life wanting to upgrade their house to work better for their needs now their children are away. Having hectic business schedules, they required help in turning their visions into reality without having to take too much time and resource out of their day.
After living in the property for 15 years, they finally decided to remove an old conservatory and add an extension, however they were really struggling with the flow and layout of each space due to the many doors connecting through to each space and the unique shaped bay windows.
The sitting room was always a problematic room that they had never been happy with, both with the layout and the furniture as it sits between all spaces and often felt like a corridor. Our client’s also owned a collection of antique furniture and were unsure how to integrate these pieces into a new interior scheme successfully.
Design brief
The brief was to design a trio of entertaining spaces that flowed from room to room for them to host dinner parties, but also use day to day and relax. We were challenged to integrate their existing antique furniture and blend the pieces into a scheme which added colour and pattern for an inviting space to both mingle and relax. It was really important for the design to exude quality and luxury in a more colourful and playful way. We designed the spaces with an eclectic style and the ratio of traditional style mixed with contemporary furniture gradually transitioned within each space so it has a natural flow from formal to relaxed living at the back of the house. The design included bespoke soft furnishings, re-upholstering existing antique furniture, bespoke joinery design, space planning, product sourcing and interior styling.

Completed project
We love collaborating with Architects on the interior design of a house extension, to highlight the Architectural features of a space. The large expanse of the Crittal windows from John Knight Glass allow so much natural light to flood into the space, creating a beautiful backdrop for the interiors to shine.

Customer testimonial
We decided to hire an interior designer so we could use their skills and expertise in firstly laying out the room and then furnishing it.
By using a designer the furniture was all ordered from room plans so we avoided any period of time between the renovation being finished and waiting for the furniture. The builders finished one day and by the next day, the rooms were furnished!
Looking at the three rooms that Natalie Holden Interiors designed, my husband and I know that we would not have been able to create these spaces without them. The style and colours are perfect and each room flows into the other.
The extension is our favourite space. The furniture fits perfectly. The furniture, light fittings, accessories all blend together to create a superb room. Whilst there are outstanding pieces of furniture in the room, none of them are competing for the limelight, instead they all come together in a cohesive scheme which looks calm, inviting and relaxing.
Natalie was a pleasure to work with. She was always quick to respond to questions and offer help. We were happy to follow Natalie’s ideas and concept design. The rooms would not look as magnificent as they do without the skills and experience of Natalie Holden Interiors.
